Transforming the Salisbury city centre

Creating opportunities and connecting people

Challenge

The City of Salisbury is embarking on an ambitious regeneration project, investing in new housing, commercial, business and retail, transport and community services in its city centre.

With a number of different projects happening over the coming 5-10 years, the council needed a communication and marketing strategy to present a holistic message about the city centre transformation and a plan for communicating with a wide range of community, business and government stakeholders.

FULLER was appointed by competitive tender in 2017 to develop the marketing strategy, and has assisted the council’s communications team to implement elements of the strategy during 2018.

Strategy

While the $40m development of the Salisbury City Centre Community Hub is the first major project in the city centre, and a major catalyst for future development, our strategy has focused on the holistic vision for the city centre.

Since the inception of the project in 2012, the council has been focused on delivering new opportunities and employment for the local community, and this sense of community ownership has been fully built into the strategy and implementation.

  • Community engagement in the lead up to planning approval for the Community Hub

Results

The strategy is being implemented by the council’s communication, development and economic development teams, with assistance from FULLER where needed. The community engagement element of the project gathered the views of more than 1,000 people and led to the council approval of the Community Hub element, which is now in construction. Videos produced have shown the complete vision of the transformation and have been shared at events and over social media, increasing awareness of the project amongst all stakeholders.
