Adelaide University
Giving the people of Adelaide University a voice.
The newly formed Adelaide University brought together an expansive community of executive, professional and academic staff. Its People and Culture team wanted to create an employee engagement video series that introduced key people and offered an insight into their roles, perspectives and aspirations for the University.
Rather than traditional corporate profiles, the series needed to feel warm, approachable and human – creating an opportunity for staff to share their stories in a more personal and conversational way.
Strategy
The opportunity was to move beyond conventional employee profiling and create a platform for genuine conversation. One that gave staff the freedom to share their ideas, opinions and experiences, while helping the wider University community connect with the people behind the institution.
The series needed a recognisable format that could accommodate a diverse range of personalities and perspectives, while remaining consistent and engaging across multiple episodes.
Creative Concept
Q&AU was born – a platform for dialogue, ideas and opinions, built around an informal question-and-answer format.
Designed to feel more like a conversation than an interview, the concept gave each featured staff member the opportunity to share their story in their own way.
A distinct visual expression was developed for Q&AU, particularly through the interview set-up. A Dutch angle framing technique created a dynamic visual style that reflected the captivating stories of its subjects. This was complemented by immersive camera work, stop-motion and timelapse techniques, and a bold editing aesthetic that moved the films away from the conventions of traditional employee profile videos.
Production & Rollout
Each episode began with a pre-interview with the featured talent, allowing Fuller to shape a narrative around their individual story and develop a visual palette that reflected their world within the University.
A streamlined production process brought consistency and efficiency across the series, from concept development and extensive location recces through to high-paced shoot days and final delivery.
Beyond the people themselves, Q&AU captured the visual character of Adelaide University, showcasing its regional and city campuses, diverse architecture and learning environments. This helped establish a broader sense of place and connection across the University.
Outcome
Across nine episodes, Q&AU has become a platform for Adelaide University to connect with its people, celebrate the diverse professionals and academics shaping its future, and give their ideas and aspirations a voice.
The series offers an authentic insight into the people behind the institution, bringing their experiences and perspectives to life through a warm, engaging and distinctly human approach.
