Refresh the Tropica Island Resort brand to capture its true essence and attract adults seeking a romantic, tropical escape

When you own a true slice of Fijian paradise where couples can retreat from the world and rekindle their love, you want a brand look and feel which articulates the romantic offering adequately.

It’s what led the team at Tropica Island Resort to Fuller.

Nestled in a private bay against the wild backdrop of the volcanic island of Malolo, Tropica Island Resort is an adults’ oasis. Boasting enviable views over crystal clear waters, vibrant native reefs and towering islands of the Mamanucas, its Australian owners had created a sanctuary for the soul; an escape from the everyday.

Now, they needed a look, feel and story to match.

The brand needed to be authentic to what was on offer, allow room to grow in the future but solidify Tropica’s place on romantic getaway bucketlists for couples around the world.

Tropica called on Fuller to immerse ourselves in their offering, establish the essence of their brand and set the playbook for wonderful staff to follow in the future.

“Whether you’re looking to revel in romance or desire discovery from your travels, there’s a magic to Tropica. A magic that’s tangible from the moment you arrive and lingers, long after you depart: a gentle whisper calling on your safe return some day.”

In a world of fierce tourism competition, Tropica Island Resort had to stand out, while reflecting the authentic Fijian hospitality it was known for. To assist in showcasing this Mamanuca marvel, Fuller’s Senior Art Designer also worked to craft a contemporary look and feel for the brand, to complement the new narrative and web presence.

Designing an authentic brand

Tropica’s original logo referenced the butterfly fish, common to waters surrounding the resort. We retained this distinctive element, but crafted a new, refined version and paired it with a wordmark using Arizona Flare by Dinamo Type Foundry. A new suite of colours were introduced to better reflect the visual landscape and feeling of a visit to Fiji, while offering greater brand flexibility across print, merchandise and digital applications. A curated photography style was also developed, to assist Tropica with developing future photo libraries. Each carefully considered element was drawn together in a comprehensive style guide, giving the Tropica team the confidence to work with the brand moving forward.
